Property Details
Each day your choice becomes to enjoy the peace, space, sun, and utter privacy of Langarra and its beaches ...or take time beyond the gates to savor more 'connected' first-world pursuits, albeit island style.
Langarra Estate, with its green lawns and constant, welcoming breeze, is part of a historic 300-acre sugar plantation, now the prestigious, secluded 'Preserve at Botany Bay.' Langarra's quiet and private hilltop site overlooks the Preserve's forested slopes, over its inlet bays, and out over the dramatic necklace of surrounding, uninhabited ocean cays and islands -- a 30-mile view.
European simplicity combines with West Indian sensuality in furnishings, paintings and details throughout the house. With soaring ceilings above, and cool coral-stone floors underfoot, the light-filled interiors maximize the expanses of sky, sea and garden-green seen from every part of the house.
There are four spacious bedroom suites, all with ocean views, large bathrooms and closets, and outdoor terraces. A fifth, queen bedroom/bath suite has its own adjacent living area and mini-kitchen -- perfect for teens, nannies, family elders, or those who may want a bit of separation.
Indoor living spaces extend outward onto the oversized, umbrella-shaded terraces. Sunlight enlivens the site from dawn until soaked-sky sunset hours... and our night skies are peppered with stars.
A large infinity edge pool overlooks the sea...and moments away on the private grounds of the Preserve, three unique beaches are yours to enjoy, often with no one else in sight: pristine, exquisite Sandy Beach (for sunning, bodysurfing, picnicking) ... and Mermaid's Chair, the dramatic, delicate double-beach (good for swimming, exploring, beachcombing), where the Atlantic Ocean and the warmer Caribbean Sea converge and blend. Close by, the folding lines of waves at Botany Bay are the envy of surfers, and the bay's protected, coral-rich shores are a snorkeler's delight. Guests can linger at the bay's open-air, oceanside Beach House pavilion to enjoy the Preserve community's Olympic-sized pool, changing rooms, small kitchen and outdoor lounge terraces. Here, too, under the filtered canopy of a deep grove of tall coconut and mango trees, are the evocative ruins of the 18th century sugar mill buildings that created rum from the sugar cane harvests brought down from the terraced slopes of these hills, two centuries ago.
Newly completed in December 2014, Estate Langarra gently combines its fresh spirit with nature's age-old sensibilities.
Just a short 20-minute drive away are the attractions of town: world-class shopping, gourmet and casual dining, grocery stores, ferries, entertainment, nightlife, and tours.
Each day your choice becomes to enjoy the peace, space, sun, and utter privacy of Langarra and its beaches ...or take time beyond the gates to savor more 'connected' first-world pursuits, albeit island style.

We stayed at Langarra Villa in Botany Bay for 1 week for a family vacation that included multiple generations (grandparents - grandchildren). From the very beginning when we started to communicate via email, the process was exceptionally smooth and straightforward. Once we arrived, we were met by our concierge and drove to Botany Bay. Arriving at the villa, everyone was blown away by the serenity and the beauty of the property and the surrounding area. The house is ideal for large groups as each bedroom is sufficiently isolated to get away from the group, but the openness of the kitchen/living room/patios still allows everyone to hang out in a common space for meals or drinks. The pool was used from sunset to sundown (and then a little more). We had planned on dinning out for a few dinners but never made it since the kitchen was so well equipped and a pleasure to cook in. We did make it to Greengo's for a casual lunch which was a nice change of pace. The only caveat to cooking was finding a grocery store that we liked. For basics, Peublo Supermarket is fine, but for better produce, meat, etc - the only choice was The Fruit Bowl (hands down).
For the beaches, Mermaids Chair, Sandy Beach and Botany Bay beach were pretty much all we needed. We had planned to do a little more exploring, but the complete isolation of Sandy Beach was too much to pass up. We were also able to borrow kayaks from the communal beach house and paddled to the islands just NE of Mermaid's Chair (note to self: tides change quickly and the paddle back is much more challenging than the paddle out). Snorkeling around Botany Bay was excellent. The coral on the north side of Sandy Beach is very good and the area south of Mermaid's Chair is also very good (even saw a few lemon sharks). We did charter a fishing boat and a snorkeling trip (Double-Header and In Theory Charters, respectively) and both were outstanding. The large outdoor grill at the villa came in handy every night, especially with 20 lbs of fresh mahi mahi.
Everyone in our family couldn't believe that we had found this place and collectively felt that this was one of the best vacations ever. Thanks for sharing this amazing property.
From the moment we landed on St. Thomas, our wonderful and memorable family trip began. We were greeted by Drivers from Amalie Car Rentals who had a brand new Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Durango waiting for our party of 11. Our Concierge greeted us and we followed her thru hilly roads eventually arriving 25 minutes at our destination.
To call Langarra Estates on the west end of the Island on Botany Bay Preserve, 'paradise' is an understatement. From the moment we drove thru the guarded gates, you realize this is a special place. We continued up a small hill which led to our private villa. After punching in a security code, the gates opened up. As we exited our vehicles, the only comments I heard were, 'paradise', 'heaven', 'oh my', 'look at the view' and it continued like this for entire week we were there.
To say the photos do not do justice to this villa is an understatement. As we entered the huge living room thru wall to ceiling sliding doors, you were instantly hit with the view of the infinity pool and Botany Bay. As my family went thru each room trying to figure out which bedroom to take for the best view, no one was disappointed. Each room was beautifully decorated and each room had a shower that could fit 8 people. The media room was stocked with books, games and a TV which we actually on,y turned on once for my 3 yr old grandson. The kitchen was stocked with all the utensils needed in a kitchen. Washer n dryer were off the kitchen as well as another washer n dryer near the other 3 bedrooms one flight below the main entrance. There were two bedrooms on the main floor.
During our stay, we cooked dinner 4 times and went out to dinner 3 times to Oceana, Thirteen and Banana Grill. We also enjoyed a breakfast at the Ritz Carlton (a must). The grill off the deck was perfect. Outside lounges were comfortable. Plenty of seating for everyone.
We decided to go to a few beaches in the morning, then relaxed at the pool in the afternoon. Magen's Bay was pretty but crowded as the cruise ships happen to be in that day. Though construction on the roads were going on in the Preserves, we were able to drive to Sandy Bay, a 5 minute drive from the house. This beautiful secluded beach was heaven. Teal water with small waves were enjoyed by all of us. There are umbrellas in the shed to use. We brought the beach chairs that were available at the villa. Thus Bay is a well kept secret.
Langarra Villa in Botany Bay is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. There were 6 of us on this vacation, all of us well-traveled women, and we all agreed whole-heartedly. Langarra was perfect in every way, starting with the view. It is spectacular, and even better than in the pictures. There were even views from the showers!
This vacation was to mark a special celebration and we could not have picked a better place. We ended up staying in Botany Bay the entire time… Even though we had loose plans to have experiences around St. Thomas, once we were at Langarra it quickly felt like there was no reason whatsoever to leave during our entire stay. So we didn’t! We only left the house to go to the beach.
The nearby beaches that we had access to were special and private… We didn’t see another person the entire time. We did need to drive to the beach because of the hilly terrain, but this just added to the fun. In the evenings we enjoyed sunsets on the back patio eating chef-prepared meals. It was simply exquisite.
Our concierge was incredible. Her help, information, and coordination took our trip to another level of ease and perfection. She was amazing, and we were so well taken care of even before we got there. She was responsive, incredibly helpful, and didn’t leave one detail untended to. She really made our trip.
The house itself was beyond: spacious, comfortable, peaceful, beautiful, and incredibly well-appointed. Everything we needed was within arms reach. The kitchen was state of the art and had everything we could have needed - all the utensils, gadgets and equipment necessary, down to the blender, toaster, salad spinner, coffee machine.
The architecture of the house was perfect - it was open and flowed in such a way that everyone felt that they could hang together, but also so well-designed that there was always a place to go, to have a little solo quiet time. The bedrooms were beautiful, each had its own terrace sitting area, its own bathroom, its own walk-in closet. And the beds were amazingly comfortable.
The infinity pool was gorgeous, crisp and beautiful… and again… THAT VIEW!! You never really get away from the incredible view, and that is the genius to how the house was created, that it is showcased from practically every spot in the house. Breathtaking!
It really couldn’t have been a better stay. Every drop was perfect. We will definitely be back!
We arrived in St. Thomas the afternoon of the 26th where were greeted by Amy and her staff from Amalie Car Rental. Amy handed us the keys to a brand new Jeep Wrangler and she made an introduction to Shawn Thomas, owner of Rock Consulting, where he works with his wife Lauren. They were super friendly/helpful and will coordinate or get you anything through their concierge service. We followed Shawn on a 20 minute, scenic drive from the airport to the top of the west end island where we reached a gated community of Botany Bay. FYI - Be prepared to drive on the left side of the road. Shawn drove us to the home, which had its own password protected privacy gate and we drove up to the house. This home is unbelievable, it is open, all rooms are spacious, beautiful and fully equipped. We were sold on the photos and they were spot on. The back patio was massive, the pool was infinity overlooking the islands with breath taking views. This is where we spent most of our time. We toured the community and all I can say is, “Wow!” Botany Bay is untouched. The beaches are great for exploring and snorkeling. We only saw one other couple the entire time we were there. We are not touristy vacationers and this home was perfect for us, it was quite and probably had the most stunning views we have ever experienced, and we are big travelers.
We were glad we rented a car even though we only left Botany Bay a couple times. Botany Bay is full of beautiful hills and overlooks that were much easier to navigate with the car. We did leave Botany Bay a few times to go to the grocery store, spend an afternoon shopping in Charlotte Amalie and to enjoy a wonderful dinner at Oceana.
Botany Bay was a wonderful way to relax, recharge and enjoy some wonderful family time. We will be renting this stunning home again.
This is a beautifully appointed home in a spectacular setting with heart stopping views of the Atlantic and Caribean from its site high atop Botany Bay. Having visited St. Thomas many times I can assure you that few places on the island can offer you this level of sophistication and privacy. The villa offers every possible amenity not the least of which is a large infinity pool, a fantastic kitchen, spacious, comfortable bedrooms with large bathrooms, living areas that are gracious without being stuffy, and wonderful expansive gardens and lawns. The villa itself is brand new, clean, and extremely well managed. Within the Botany Bay complex and a short drive / walk from the house are three very beautiful and secluded beaches. One of these has a community club house with bathrooms, lounge chairs, an outdoor kitchen, its own swimming pool and some of the best surfing on the island when the waves are up. I would have to say that the majority of the time we had these beaches to ourselves and spent the day swimming, reading, snorkeling and body surfing. For people with a historical bent Botany Bay offers a rich history dating back to 800A.D. On the property can still be found old sugar mills and numerous artifacts from its plantation days. Anyone who has been to the islands knows that when the cruise ships are in you can suddenly find yourself surrounded with 30,000 of your new best friends. The wonderful thing about being on the west end of the island is you can readily drive to and immerse yourself in the hub hub if you choose and yet when your at the villa you'll feel like your a million miles away. I can't say enough about this property and its location. If you want a Four Seasons experience at a fraction of the cost.....this is it!
We loved our stay! Kim and Bob were helpful in getting us settled! We had two families of four with more than enough room. The house is well equipped with comfortable beds, top of the line finishes, washer/dryer, well equipped kitchen and an impeccable view. The local private beaches are an endless exploration. The beach house is well equipped with a kitchen, fridge, bathroom, pool, kayaks and paddle boards. I recommend renting a Jeep so you can get up and down the mountain (to the beach house) a little easier. You are one with nature so you may see an occasional spider or mosquitos.
In total we had four children all under the age of five. When we go back again the only thing I would change is to research a crib rental instead of bringing our own.
Thank you Kim & Bob! Our best vacation yet!
