The terrain on St. Thomas is known for having a long ridge of hills running east and west through the center of the island, with smaller ridges branching off from the center. St. Thomas is 13 miles long by four miles wide, and encompasses over 31 square miles. The highest point is Crown Mountain at 1,556 feet. St. Thomas has a beautiful natural harbor and many protected bays. There are relatively no flat areas on St. Thomas.

The climate of the U.S. Virgin Islands is tropical and hot all year round, with a relatively cooler season from December to April. On the northernmost islands, (Saint John and Saint Thomas) the dry season runs from December to April, even though during some years there have been heavy rains.
